March 14th & March 15th
8:00am - 1:00pm and 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Educational Services Center
4999 Casa Loma Avenue, Yorba Linda

Parents interested in enrolling their student in the district’s Preppy K program for the 2012-13 school year should attend one of the pre-registration meetings. At this meeting, families will fill out the Preppy K Application and receive a Preppy K Kindergarten Packet. Assessment dates will also be scheduled for the district’s developmental screening that is required prior to admittance into Preppy K

The Kindergarten Readiness Act, a historic reform to kindergarten education, gives Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) an opportunity to ensure that more children each year are better prepared to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. PYLUSD believes that school readiness is more than just reading, writing, and arithmetic. This legislation enables PYLUSD to create a Transitional Kindergarten program (Preppy “K”) to support the development and achievement of our youngest learners.

Research has shown that students who enter kindergarten at four have a higher likelihood of retention and learning delays in comparison to their older peers. While younger students may do well academically in kindergarten, they are often at a disadvantage in middle and high school in areas such as social maturity and athletics.

PYLUSD is proud to address these concerns through the creation of a standards-based Preppy “K” program that is designed to meet both the academic and social-emotional needs of our younger students.

  • Students born in late summer or fall are given the opportunity to participate in a developmentally appropriate two-year kindergarten program.
  • All Preppy “K” classes will be taught by fully credentialed kindergarten teachers.
  • Enrollment will be based on space available at Preppy “K” sites
If you are interested in participating in the PYLUSD Preppy “K” program beginning September 2011, please submit the application on this page with your registration packet to the Preppy K magnet school site you indicated on the application. Your local elementary school can provide necessary registration materials. If you have any questions, please contact Dorie Staack at (714) 985-8654.
